Goodwin's Analysis

I will be applying Goodwin's analysis through out my video.

  1. Music Videos demonstrate genre characteristics- I spoke about this in my previous post 'Genre Notes' . I will be following some specific videos of the same genre but adapting it slightly.
  2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals- This will be spoken about in my length in my next post. There are some lines that I will take more literally for example; when she sings "Found myself in a second hand guitar" I will make it appear as though she is actually in a guitar.
  3. There is a relationship between music and visuals- My video will be following the pace of the video as the pace of the music picks up so will the on screen action.
  4. The Demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work- As this is a one off video it is harder to show a developing motif. However there will be lots of close ups of the singer and the way she will move and dress will match the music.
  5. There is frequently reference to the notion of looking - When she is in the guitar she will be looking out of it which will be the first sign of the notion of looking. Additionally there is going to be a lot of  direct address though the singer will be looking directly at the audience.
  6. There is often intertextual reference- I have not decided on whether there will be an intertextual reference as of yet but I may decide on one later in my process.

Genre Notes

Liane La Havas' music is mostly acoustic and is a cross between alternative folk and soul. She is similar to artists such as:
Laura Marling
Lucy Rose
Andreya Triana
Hollie Cooke

In theses artist's videos they all have themselves in the video and not many other people. I will be following this as my video will be predominately one person. Additionally they all have lip syncing, as mine will.

Hollie Cooke - And The Beat Goes on ^

A lot of these artists play there own instruments and so like to include that within their videos. I will be having a section of mine with Alisa (main person in the video) playing guitar.
Laura Marling- Sophia ^

Lucy Rose's 'Middle Of The Bed' has a similar feel to the sort of video I want to create. At the start it is her singing to the camera with the backgrounds behind her changing. I am planning to do something similar but with Alisa walking along and the backgrounds behind changing. I also like the background of the brick wall, and may have the part when she is playing the guitar, in front of a brick wall.

I really like the quirky feel of Andreya Triana's video for 'A Town Called Obsolete'. In this video the background is moving at a different pace to her. I will be applying this in my video by having Alisa in busy location filled with people that will be moving fast around her while she is still.

Introduction

My name is Katie Keogh and I am currently studying A Levels at Fareham college. I am studying English Literature and Language, Communications and Culture and Media.

This blog is to document all my research and ideas for my final piece of coursework. My coursework which is 50 % of my final grade is to produce a Music Video and accompany it with a DVD cover and magazine article.

I enjoy blogging in my spare time and therefore am ethusiastic about doing this coursework.

We had to choose a piece of copyright music or get permission from an artist to use there work. I got in contact with one of my favourite artists Lianne La Havas via twitter and asked for permission to use her son 'Is Your Love Big Enough'  I had to email here manager and I got permission to use it.

I shall be blogging throughout the process of making my music video so you will be able to see each step I took to reach my completed video.
